For the first time ever, Indian sellers listed on Amazon.in will get a chance to sell their products in the US market during the upcoming Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas sales.

Keeping in mind the growing demand for Indian products in the global market, e-commerce giant Amazon is allowing about 5,000 Indian sellers to reap the benefits of these mega sale events, which can be compared to the Diwali sales in India and Singles Day of China. This way, it allows sellers to get a global exposure and an opportunity to increase their sales.

According to an Amazon spokesperson, over one lakh products such as electronics, accessories, cookware, clothing, luxury products, toys and home décor sold by Indian sellers have already been shipped to Amazon.com’s fulfilment centres (FCs) in the US for the shopping festival. They will further be made available for one-day delivery through ‘Amazon Prime.’

Specific products from Indian sellers being made available to the US include a variety of electronic accessories, brass idols, nautical instruments, cricket bats and sports accessories amongst products such as bed sheets, tapestries, cushion covers, leggings, women’s  tops, tunics, sarees and kurtis are also being added to the platform. The idea is to allow global consumers shop from a variety of Indian handicrafts, leather jackets and herbal health-wellness products from all corners of India.

The US e-commerce giant Amazon first brought Black Friday on its platform in 2010. It went on to receive orders for more than 5.5 million goods on Black Friday in 2014, selling 64 items per second, as per the company records.

Unique opportunity

Talking about creating this unique opportunity for Indian SMEs, an Amazon spokesperson said: “The Black Friday & Cyber Monday sales are a seller’s delight on account of heightened shopper excitement and high shopper traffic. We chose to offer this opportunity for Indian SMEs to participate in the sale under our Global Selling Program.

“We will continue to innovate for sellers and help them grow their business by leveraging Amazon’s state-of-the-art technology, world class logistics infrastructure and customer service expertise. Apart from assisting shoppers with insights on demand, compliance and logistics services, we have also set up dedicated telephonic support for Indian sellers on Amazon.com during Indian business hours to ensure a smooth selling experience.”

Meanwhile, eBay India has introduced the Black Friday sale concept in India. Globally, Black Friday sale will be celebrated on November 27. However, in India, it was rolled out on November 20 and it will go on until November 30. eBay will also offer free shipping across the country on products purchased through Global Easy Buy, the company said.

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US. Since the early 2000s, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US, and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales.
