Here is a mobile game application that teaches children to opt for healthier diet in a fun way.
Fooya, developed by the US-based medical technology company Friendslearn, helps children in distinguishing healthy food from junk through a 160-level game.
Children progress from one level to the next when they choose healthy options such as fruits, dairy products, vegetables and grains.
When unhealthy food like soda is chosen, they lose points, puton weight and find it difficult to move.
At the end of each level, a nutritional chart lists contents of each item consumed during the game for children between age three and 13.
A clinical trial conducted in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, showed that children who played Fooya chose healthier options compared to their peers, according to Bhargav Sri Prakash, Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
He says, with obesity becoming a serious threat, educating children on nutrition as young as three years is important as they tend to grasp them quickly and probability of them exercising healthy food options is higher.
The paid mobile app, costing ₹600, was launched in the US two years ago and so far has seen 50,000 download.
The company is in talks with doctors, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, schools and public health sectors to take the application further.
It has invested ₹34-70 crore in app development and clinical trials.
The company launched the app in India two months ago and clinical trials are going on.
