Apalya Technologies, the mobile TV solutions firm, is looking at acquiring an analytics or data sciences company as it changed its focus exclusively to technology platform business.

The firm, which used to aggregate content along with the technology business, has decided to refocus its efforts only to providing the technology platform and managing solutions to firms that want to provide content.

After the strategy rejig, it won bids to handle the OTT (over-the-top or delivery of content over the web) content for Vodafone and Sun TV’s Sun Next content platform. “The mobile usage is going up in the country. The internet user base is expected to touch the 450-million mark in the next few years. We see a great potential,” Vamshi Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of Apalya, said.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said the firm saw unfolding opportunity in the OTT space and had decided to buy the stake from the investors, giving them an exit.

With 100 employees working for it, Apalya has registered a turnover of ₹42 crore in 2016-17. “We have just become profitable. We are expecting a turnover of about ₹65 crore in 2017-18,” he said.

“We are looking for an acquisition in analytics and data sciences firm to develop a recommendation engine for our customers. This will help them understand consumer preferences,” he said.
