Mobius Knowledge Services, a city-based provider of data services extracting publicly available information on the Web, has diversified into software development from a company that was extracting publicly available information on the Web.
From a five-member manual web research team in 2000, the company has expanded in to a team of nearly 1,100 employees spread across Chennai, Coimbatore and Coonoor, said co-founder and CEO Karthik Karunakaran.
Through the software development, Mobius will support its existing clients in data solutions development. “We have begun the journey in the new sector by signing as a partner for a $4 billion company,” he told BusinessLine . Gautam Dalmia, Managing Director, Dalmia Bharat Group, is a co-founder of Mobius in his personal capacity, said Karunakaran.
Mobius uses contemporary technologies and tools coupled with human expertise to deliver accurate data, information and knowledge to its 70-plus customers, including large publishing and research firms, globally. Clients use the data, and add analytics to it to produce various reports, he said. Going a step further, the company has now ventured into big data services. For instance, in the European Union, for a client, it provided ‘gas data’ right from origin to delivery at the end user. The entire route of the gas pipeline from one end to the other was tracked. The pipelines criss-crossed across EU, he said.
Another example was offering a global auto major information on owners of second-hand cars of that company in the market. The information helped the auto major to tap those customers to provide them value-added services, he said.
In software development, the company has around 40 employees with plans to ramp it to around 100 in six to eight months, he said.
Mobius will also increase its focus on platform development, and in ‘Software as a Service’ by providing customised data feeds on a subscription basis, he said.
Karunakaran said for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the company expects report revenue of around ₹63 crore, a 12 per cent increase over last year. “We want a visibility of 25 per cent growth in next fiscal manly through incremental revenue from software services,” he said.
