Lenovo is set to become the number one personal computer (PC) manufacturer in the September quarter. Thanks to an order from the Tamil Nadu Government for supply of 6.5 lakh laptops to be distributed free to school and college students.

The order from will help the company increase its market share in PC to nearly 25 per cent in September quarter from 18.1 per cent in the previous quarter. HP is currently the market leader.

"The Tamil Nadu Government tendered for a total of 11 lakh laptops of which a “lion’s share has come to us,” Rahul Agarwal, Managing Director, Lenovo India, told newspersons on the launch of ‘Start up with Lenovo’ campaign to increase PC penetration by making it easy to acquire a PC.

Lenovo has already supplied 4.5 lakh laptops to the State Government and will supply the remaining 2 lakh in the next three months, he said.
