Hitachi Consulting Software Services India has changed its business strategy from a pure software services approach to focus on consulting and transformational solutions in the country and the Asia-Pacific region.

Part of the diversified Japanese business conglomerate Hitachi, with three development centres in India at Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore, Hitachi Consulting India is now seeking to transform its centres into innovation hubs.

Interacting with Business Line, top management of the Hitachi Consulting in India, recently explained that the transformation within the company has been thoughtfully brought about to cater to the challenges in the digital economy and in the world of connected devices (Internet of things) in the manufacturing and other spheres.

Feroz Mohammed, Executive Vice President, Global Delivery Centres, Hitcahi Consulting, Sanjay Khendry, VP, Hitachi Global Convergence, India, JAPAC, and Dev K Ramchandani, Director, Management Consulting, explained how this change will provide new focus in India too where it would now pursue contracts as an innovation and consultancy solutions provider.

The company, which has more than 1700 technology professionals spread over different delivery centres in India, is looking at further consolidating its business. Significantly, from a client perspective, the solutions would be delivered from one global entity that is Hitachi, be if software service, consultancy, solutions or its products and services.

Feroz said that the IT and Internet of Things are converging requiring their convergence and delivery of of services in a solutions form be it in the manufacturing, utilities, rail projects or smart cities.

These solutions are broadly covered under Digital Operations in a manufacturing environment, Digital Customer Experience by building intelligence, Creating Digital Enterprise and Creating Smart Infrastructure. All these are set to drive new generation technology solutions, Feroz said.

Hitherto, Hitachi Consulting India was focussing on software services for global markets. Now we are looking at projects in India and the Asia-Pacific region and plan to handle them through the technology teams based in India. These teams too have gone through a major transformation with business orientation shifting to a consultancy and solutions approach. This has meant that the services approach has changed to innovation hub approach. All the associates in the company have been trained to take to this transformation.

“While we are already engaged in few projects in India in the areas of Public Safety Solutions, such as video analysis of busy streets and public places, and in the areas of preventive maintenance, the portfolio of projects will gradually increase to cover public transport systems, rail networks and projects in smart cities,” they explained.
