The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) is hosting its international conference, World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT), along with Nasscom, in Hyderabad from February 19 to 21. Touted to be the ‘Olympics of the IT industry’, the conference is coming to India for the first time.

WCIT has lined up about 22 sessions covering artificial intelligence, blockchain, innovation, future of work, and sports and technology.

About 2,500 representatives, including 500 foreign participants from 30 countries, will take part in the conference. The National Association of Software and Services Companies is merging its annual flagship event, Nasscom India Leadership Forum (NILF), with WCIT.

WITSA is an umbrella organisation representing IT industry associations in about 80 countries and 90 per cent of the information and communication technologies markets.

It will be for the first time that Nasscom is moving NILF away from Mumbai ever since it started the annual brainstorming conference about 25 years ago.

The focus of WCIT India 2018 will be ‘Fulling the Promise of Digital Age’.

“Shantanu Narayen, Chief Executive Officer of Adobe; David M Cote, Chairman of Honeywell, and Sophia, world’s first citizen robot, are among the speakers lined up for the three-day event,” said R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the NILF thread will have five mini forums to focus on areas like artificial intelligence, skilling and open innovation.

The Telangana government clinched the conference for Hyderabad by paying a sponsorship fee of ₹5 crore to the organisers.

CoE for AI, data sciences

Meanwhile, the State is planning to tie up with Nasscom to set up a Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad to work on the newer technologies such as artificial intelligence and data sciences.

The roadmap for establishing the CoE will be announced during the conference.
