Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJio), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries, will invest an additional ₹1-lakh crore to ramp up its infrastructure to support its growing subscriber base.

The company, which rolled out 4G LTE services, will also set up another 50,000 base stations, sources close to the development said.

The company has already invested ₹1.6-lakh crore for setting up infrastructure and installed a total of 2.82 lakh base stations across the country. RJio, a company controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, had started offering 4G connections to consumers from September 5, with services running free till December 30.

The firm was offering free access to voice and data under its welcome offer for three months.

After December, RJio customers would be provided domestic voice calls, including roaming, for free.

Earlier in September, RJio said it subscriber base had crossed 16 million during the first month of operations, which it termed was a world record.
