Chinese smartphone-maker Huawei will start manufacturing handsets in India soon, details of which will be announced in a month.
“We already have licences for manufacturing in place. In the short term, we will announce our local manufacturing plan...in one month,” Peter Zhai, President for Huawei India Consumer Business Group, said at the launch of Huawei P9 on Wednesday.
As an international brand the company is interested in developing its India business at right time, he said, adding that it is going to be the second largest mobile devices market after China. “We will be aggressive in India. Huawei will increase presence across 50,000 stores by this year-end from about a couple of thousands now,” Zhai said.
The company has a team of 3,000 people in R&D in India, which would be leveraged for local understanding of consumer needs, he said.
New handsetMeanwhile, the company launched its latest smartphone Huawei P9 priced at ₹39,999, which will be available on Flipkart from Wednesday. The latest handset has 12MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, RGB (red, green blue) and monochrome sensors for more light, hybrid auto focus with three different modes, wide-aperture feature and three film modes – standard, smooth and vivid.
Huawei is also giving a VIP service option, which includes one-year warranty, three months display accidental damage warranty and free postal repair service – pick up and drop, Zhai said.
The device operates on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, has 3000 mAH battery, biometric fingerprint scanner, virtual triple antenna for Wi-Fi, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and has Octo-core processor.
The company has also launched Huawei Smart Watch priced at ₹22,999 with 1.4 inch display, 400x400 screen resolution, cold-forged stainless steel and also measures heart rate and distance run for health ecosystem.
On the occasion, the company also revealed upcoming Huawei products – the Matebook and the TalkBand B3, which will be launched soon in India.
