Leading mobile brand Micromax on Tuesday partnered with state telecom operator BSNL to launch 4G VoLTE phone, Bharat-1, priced at Rs 2,200.

Both Micromax and BSNL will work collaboratively to introduce the best consumer mobile experience, the company said.

"Leveraging technology to provide affordable and innovative products and services, Bharat-1 from Micromax is a 4G phone that helps bridge the digital divide and provides users with unlimited calling and unlimited data offers from BSNL at an affordable cost of Rs 97 every month," it said.

With Bharat-1, Micromax and BSNL together are aiming at providing a compelling 4G phone option to India’s 500 million-plus population that is still Internet unconnected.

“Both Micromax and BSNL have been working with the aim of bringing the next wave of unconnected users on the Internet. We will now take this vision forward with Bharat-1 and create a compelling proposition for users that is a first in the category," Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax, said.

The Bharat-1 handset is powered by a 2000 mAh battery and Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM, a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, 2 MP rear camera and VGA selfie camera, 4G VoLTE and dual sim connectivity.

It also has multiple content options under Micromax Entertainment ranging from Live TV to music, movies and videos, which are available under the suite of entertainment apps, for users to watch their favourite content on the move. Desh ka 4Gfone also comes with support for 22 different languages.

The handset will be available across India at retail outlets starting October 20 onwards.

“Connecting the last mile – to the Internet and relevant information – is an important part of the strategy for both BSNL and Micromax. We are confident that Bharat-1 will help millions of users experience data and calling experience like never before," Anupam Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL, said.
