Leading smartphone makers Samsung and Xiaomi launched their flagship models on Thursday.

While Samsung launched Galaxy J3 priced at ₹8,990, Xiaomi launched Mi 5 priced at ₹24,999.

While the Samsung Galaxy J3 will be available exclusively on Snapdeal immediately, Xiaomi said its flagship model will be available starting from April 6 on its portal.

Samsung features

The Samsung handset has some unique features like the ‘S bike’ mode, an industry-first dedicated feature for two-wheeler riders that is designed to enable responsible and tension-free riding.

Once activated at the beginning of a ride, any caller trying to reach the Galaxy J3 user will be notified through an automated answering machine that the user is riding and cannot take calls, so that the ride remains uninterrupted, the company said.

It is equipped with a 1.5 GHz QuadCore processor and 1.5 GB RAM, with five-inch HD screen as well as an 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera.

“S bike mode is a result of that vision. While studying the consumers’ phone usage behaviour, we realised that incoming calls are a major distraction to bikers,” Asim Warsi, Senior Vice-President, Samsung India Electronics, said.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB flash memory, has 16MP front camera and 4MP front camera. The company has launched the handset within a month of its global launch.

“Mi 5 is the perfect embodiment of high performance and a beautiful, lightweight design. It has been in the making for 19 months, and has several tech breakthroughs built into it,” Hugo Barra, Vice-President, Xiaomi, said.

Meanwhile, home-grown company Datamini launched TPOS7 ‘Janunnati Pad’, with integrated, STQC-certified fingerprint scanner for Aadhaar authentication. It equipped with Intel Atom processor, 2GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage (expandable up to 64GB), and is priced at ₹14,000.

Another local company – Smartton -- launched t.book, a two-in-one personal computer for ₹39,999, and will start selling it in India by April-end. The company is also developing its own drone, smart home solutions that can be controlled from phones.
