National Instruments (NI) has launched the latest version of its product LabVIEW, with enhanced speed and memory usage, with an aim to revolutionise the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) space. 

Talking to BusinessLine at the 12th edition of NIDays to exhibit advancements in Industrial IoT, National Instruments Vice President (Sales and Marketing), Europe, Robert Morton said the company finds tremendous opportunity in IoT but added that there is considerable hype around the technology. "While it is a trend that will drive the way technology is consumed in the future, there is a need for a platform that can enable IIoT," Morton added. IIoT adoption will continue to rise due to low cost of sensors coupled with rapid innovations in FPGA technology. 

NI is also investing heavily into technology that makes this process easier for scientists and engineers to not only rapidly prototype this but also deploy systems. It, however, did not specify the quantum of investments. 

NI also announced winners of its annual technical application contest that enables NI customers to showcase innovative projects based on NI software and hardware. This year’s winners were ARAV Technologies for their vision based pre-dispatch inspection from the SME category, Mahindra & Mahindra for their automated infotainment systems testing solution from the Systems category, SRM University for their full duplex cognitive radio implementation using NI USRP RIO 2943 from the Academics category and Digilogic Systems for their portable DRFM based radar echo simulation system from the Alliance Partner Category. The contest this year had a total of 67 teams and the winners get a chance to participate in the Global Engineering Impact Awards held in Austin annually during NIWeek.
