NTT Communications Corp (NTT Com) has received a licence to provide national long-distance services (NLD) services in India and the Japanese company will use for data services.

This makes NTT Com the first Japanese company to launch data services in India.

The company, which will offer the services through a new firm NTT Communications India Network Services Private Ltd, expects to roll out services by this month-end.

“Initially, the company will offer domestic connectivity to Japanese companies in India and also to Netmagic’s data centre customers in the country. We will also offer services to foreign firms requiring domestic connectivity in India, and even local firms here,” Netmagic Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sharad Sanghi said.

NTT Com’s holds an 81 per cent stake in Netmagic, a carrier-neutral data centre services provider, which holds an Internet Service Provider (ISP) licence.

NTT Com is looking to provide Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) and other high-quality connectivity services that are required by businesses in India. The company will network services with managed-hosting and cloud services that are currently being offered by Netmagic, which owns nine data centres in India.

New data centres On its part, Netmagic was looking to invest about ₹2,000 crore to set up three new data centres — Mumbai, Bengaluru and Noida — in the next three years.

Following this, Netmagic would have a total of 12 data centres in the country with a total floor space of 12-lakh sq ft. The new centres in Mumbai and Bengaluru would have a floor space capacity of between 2.5-3 lakh and that in Noida would be about 1.5-2 lakh.
