Mid-tier IT firm Persistent Systems on Monday announced its acquisition of two units of US-based cloud software firm Citrix Systems.

The acquisition will be done through Persistent’s US subsidiary Accelerite and is expected to close before March 31. The addition of these technologies to the company’s cloud software portfolio will help enterprises and service providers simplify cloud management and accelerate the adoption of containers in the cloud, Persistent said in a statement.

The two units — CloudPlatform and CloudPortal Business Manager — form Citrix’ CloudPlatform (powered by Apache CloudStack) and is a cloud computing software for creating, managing, and deploying public and private cloud infrastructure services.

Persistent Systems is looking at rapidly acquiring small companies that can help it offer specialised digital services. In last one year, the Pune-based firm acquired Convirture, RGen Solutions, and Aepona Holdings and its five subsidiaries from Intel.

Nara Rajagopalan, CEO, Accelerite, said, “Cloud infrastructure software is one of the three pillars of Accelerite. Today, our cloud software portfolio includes disaster recovery and enterprise self-service solutions. The addition of CloudPlatform and CloudPortal Business Manager product lines will help round out our portfolio and enables us to offer complete end-to-end life cycle management for public and private clouds. Although we see an increase in both the acceptance and adoption of containers in today’s clouds, large gaps still exist in an enterprise’s ability to deploy and manage containers in these environments. CloudPlatform, with its simplicity and ease-of-use along with its tremendous customer base, is a great platform for enterprises to use to address this emerging need to help evolve the cloud into its next phase of hyper-convergence.

Cloud integration “Customers are our top priority and we are confident that Accelerite will nurture our customers who are heavily invested in running their clouds on these solutions,” said Steve Wilson, vice-president, Core Infrastructure at Citrix.

“Accelerite has been successful in acquiring product lines from other large companies to grow cloud computing and virtualisation software products. Citrix will work closely with Accelerite to build on CloudPlatform integrations with our key offerings that enable the secure delivery of apps and data.”

In addition to increasing the level of investment in the product line to reinvigorate the roadmap with new features and functions to meet the evolving needs of CloudPlatform users, Accelerite will continue to work closely with Apache Foundation and contribute its CloudPlatform roadmap to the Apache CloudStack project, Persistent said.
