Qualcomm India President Sunil Lalvani has quit the company amidst performance pressures, according to people aware of the development.

Lalvani’s stint at Qualcomm lasted just over a year when in July last year he was brought in to replace Avneesh Agrawal who was with the company for 21 years.

When contacted Qualcomm confirmed the development. “Sunil Lalvani has decided to step down from his position as V-P & President of Qualcomm India. His replacement will be announced shortly. Parag Kar, Vice-President of Government Affairs will serve as the interim head of India.”

A telecom industry veteran, Lalvani was reporting to Jim Cathey, Senior Vice President and President, Asia Pacific & India, Qualcomm. He had taken charge of Qualcomm’s India business at a time when the company is facing huge challenges globally and in the local market.

He joined Qualcomm from BlackBerry, where he served as managing director of India and SAARC. Lalvani was also instrumental in leading a strong engagement with Carrier partners and ISV’s in India, to drive uptake of BlackBerry’s services portfolio in the India region.

Lalvani also has worked at EMC Corporation, Nokia Corporation, Cisco Systems and SITA Equant Network (now Orange Business Services).

When contacted by BusinessLine , Lalvani declined to comment on the development.
