Raising a ticket regarding a query on leaves, travel or rescheduling of meetings, and waiting endlessly for an answer from the human resources department?

In smaller organisations, you can get an answer over the cubicle. But in a larger firm, it will be tough for HR departments to handle a plethora of queries, and could leave the staff in a spot.

Infor, a US-based enterprise software firm with interests in India, has developed a solution that operates behind apps to address this nagging problem that employees face.

The firm’s Artificial Intelligence-based platform, Coleman, uses natural language processing and image recognition to chat, hear, talk and recognise images to help people use technology more efficiently. “By developing a conversational relationship with the user, Coleman enables the AI to become the user interface,” Charles Philip, Chief Executive Officer, Infor, told Business Line .

“Usually, you would fill out a form or send an email to HR. With Coleman, you could just ask those same questions on your phone and get a answer.

“We are demonstrating the system it now, and it has generated a lot of excitement. It is going to come up in the next six months as we start to roll out to customers.”

Investments

He said the firm has invested about $3 billion in research and development in the last five years or so. “And that was to move our applications to the cloud to standardise certain components across all of our applications as well. We factor all the user experiences to UI,” he said.

Out of the 16,000 employees the firm has worldwide, about 2,400 are based in India. This includes 1,700 in Hyderabad and about 500 in Bengaluru.
