Early stage fund Venture Catalyst has invested $150,000 in SIFTR Labs, a platform to curate digital images using machine learning.

Founded by ex-Adobe Romil Mittal and Mayank Bhagya, SIFTR Labs aims to assist photographers in managing their photography. The company is getting good user traction with its first product – SIFTR Photo Websites (http://Siftr.co) – which creates the world's first self-updating photo websites.

Apoorv Ranjan Sharma, Co-founder, Venture Catalyst, said, “Using artificial intelligence on images is an exciting space to be in. We have full faith in the founding team, and believe they have the vision and potential to create an excellent product."

Vishal Maheshwari, who led the angel investment for VCats, added, “The start-up world today revolves around the disruption of extant services, which is why the decision to invest in SIFTR was made. We believe that another digital re-evolution is imminent which shall be driven by advanced GPU and machine learning. As such, the promising technology that SIFTR employs makes it well-poised for success in the time to come.”

Romil Mittal, Co-founder, SIFTR Labs, said, “Thanks to the mobile revolution, more than a billion photos are uploaded every day on the Internet, and still it's difficult to find a great photo when you need one. We are an image analysis company and are building our technology stack further to provide very advanced photo search for different user cases."

The move to grant seed funding to SIFTR Labs follows the recent investment of $250k by VCats into ConfirmTkt, and underlines the company’s commitment towards nurturing innovative, tech-driven start-ups. VCats also recently partnered with leading global start-up accelerator Plug and Play to expose Indian companies to strategic opportunities and connect with potential partners, investors and mentors from around the world.
