Taking on Reliance Jio, Vodafone India is offering free incoming calls on national roaming for all users, starting this Diwali. The second largest operator in the country termed this as part of its celebration of 200 million customer additions.
“Even though outgoing charges while roaming had become comparable to home charges, consumer research has shown that incoming charges while roaming have been a hindrance to worry-free usage,” said Sandeep Kataria, Director (Commercial) at Vodafone India. In September, Vodafone India, a fully-owned subsidiary of the UK-based Vodafone Group, had said that its subscriber base had risen to 200 million.
Capital infusionEarlier, the company had said parent Vodafone Group has infused ₹47,700 crore into its Indian arm. The equity infusion, the highest by the British major since it acquired the India business in 2007, comes ahead of the next round of spectrum auctions.
Earlier, the operator had launched many schemes, including a free data offer for its SuperNet (3G and 4G) customers. In the recent spectrum auctions, the company acquired spectrum in all its key telecom circles for a total cost of ₹20,200 crore.
