Tata AIG's HealthFirst

Sowmya Sundar

"ALL hospital allowances paid, no questions asked," that's the punch line of Tata AIG's HealthFirst.

It is a comprehensive health policy that pays out a flat sum, rather than reimbursing, your medical expenses — for hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation, critical illness and surgery.

A proof of hospitalisation or merely the diagnosis of a critical illness will do to claim the benefit. It also throws in a small death benefit.

The premiums for HealthFirst are renewable once in five years — premiums for health covers are usually renewable every year.

How it works?

The level of cover can vary from one unit to 10 units. The amount of benefit will be a multiple of the number of units chosen.

More the number of units, higher the premiums.

Benefits

Tata AIG's HealthFirst offers the following benefits:

  • Hospital cash allowance of Rs 250 per unit per day. The allowance is payable only after the third day up to 90 days of hospitalisation. Claims due to accidents are covered during the period. Claims arising within 90 days of the policy being taken out are not covered.

  • Surgical illness benefit of Rs 12,500 per unit is paid for a surgical procedure. The benefit is paid in addition to the hospital cash allowance and only if the later is payable.

  • A critical illness cover of Rs 1.25 lakh per unit payable on diagnosis of any of the 12 critical illnesses covered.

  • Post-hospitalisation benefit of Rs 125 per unit per day for a maximum of three days is payable only if hospital cash benefit is payable.

  • A death cover of Rs 1,000 per unit is paid on the unfortunate death of the insuree. The benefit is not payable if any of the above benefits have been paid.

You can make multiple claims during the tenure of the policy up to a maximum of Rs 2.5 lakh per unit.

The benefits are paid only in Tata AIG approved hospitals.
