Alagappan Arunachalam

OFFERS on Maruti cars are pouring in. In continuation with the July scheme, Maruti dealers are offering comprehensive insurance cover for a year at the rate of one rupee on the petrol versions of the Zen, Esteem, Wagon R and the Baleno. In addition, customers would get a gift cheque of Rs 10,000 on purchasing the Zen petrol and Rs 7,500 on buying the Wagon R. Maruti genuine accessories (MGA) worth Rs 28,000 come free with the Baleno. If that is not good enough, an exchange bonus of Rs 5,000 is also being offered on all cars; in case you upgrade from the Esteem to the Baleno, there is an exchange bonus of Rs 10,000. The offer is valid till the end of this month.

Car manufacturers' gesture

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has come out with special rates for the service of all Toyota vehicles that have been damaged by water logging caused by the monsoon rains in Mumbai. The service is being offered at all Toyota dealerships in Mumbai. The offer, which opened on July 29, is valid until August 10 and includes a 50 per cent discount on labour charges and a 25 per cent discount on parts.

Hyundai Motor India, on its part, has set up a coordination centre in Mumbai for the service and repair of Hyundai vehicles, which have been affected by the rain and floods in Mumbai. Hyundai has announced a 50 per cent discount on the parts for such cars in Mumbai. Customers who service their cars by avoiding the insurance route would be entitled to an additional 50 per cent discount on labour.

Maruti Udyog is also offering a 50 per cent discount on repairs that are not covered by insurance at free-check-up camps outside its workshops for rain-affected cars in Mumbai.

Tata's Safari Dicor

Tata Motors has launched a new version of its Safari sports utility vehicle. The new model christened Safari Dicor (short for direct injection common rail) sports a 115 PS Common Rail Direct Injection diesel engine. A new 32-bit microprocessor monitors the flow of fuel and is designed to increase the efficiency and power of the three-litre engine that Tata Motors says has been developed indigenously. The 2x4 (two-wheel drive) and 4x4 (four-wheel drive) versions of the Safari Dicor are available in three variants.

The SUV is being offered in a price band of Rs 7.83 lakh to Rs 12.7 lakh. On offer is also an 18-month warranty package with unlimited kilometres. The Safari Dicor sports fresh new looks, including a chrome-plated front grill, 16-inch alloy wheel rims and integrated fog lamps.

Tata Motors also plans to roll out its other models with engines powered by the Common Rail Direct Injection technology.
