Power in the wind

Geographical diversification and vertical integration are Suzlon Energy's mantras for growth. The company's acquisition of one of the leading gearbox makers, Eve Holding NV of Belgium for 465 million euros (Rs 2,500 crore) appears to fit well with the above strategy. The acquisition will give it control over manufacture of gear-boxes, a key component for wind turbine generators. Belgium is one of the leading centres for wind power technology; and the acquisition will also serve as a springboard for expansion of Suzlon's footprint in the UK, the US, Brazil and South Africa.
