Optra goes the CNG way

Alternative fuel is moving up the viability scale, as fuel economy appears to be the buzzword among car manufacturers. Following Maruti's launch of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas-powered WagonR, GM has launched a Compressed Natural Gas-powered variant of its premium sedan, the Optra. The new variant carries a price tag of Rs 8.1 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Initially, it will only be available at GM's dealerships in cities where CNG is available, including Delhi and Mumbai.

The Optra CNG would also be available in Gujarat. Further, a CNG kit approved by GM would be available at its dealerships for retrofitting. Reinforced suspension coil springs would also be available as part of the kit for extra load bearing capacity at the rear. Optras can also be fitted with the CNG kit and retain warranty coverage.
