Now, Blaze with disc brakes

S. Muralidhar

Big and snazzy. - S. Muralidhar

India's most powerful and only real `motoscooter' is now also the safest. The Kinetic Blaze, which very clearly is the snazziest looking large format scooter in the country, has just been launched with a front disc brake option.

The Blaze's list of positive attributes has always started with its amazingly attractive looks and the smooth, powerful performance of its 165cc engine.

But with the engine putting out a thumping, big-bike style peak power of 11.6 HP at 7,500 rpm, the Blaze could have done better with improved braking performance that disc brakes could offer it.

The drum brakes version of the Blaze used 130mm size drums, and though braking performance is adequate at city riding speeds, it does feel a bit spongy and inadequate for emergency braking, especially at high speeds. The Blaze is also a heavyweight, with its above average dimensions; this motoscooter weighs in at 136 kg (kerb weight).

With the higher weight and with a pillion riding high up on the stepped seating, potential buyers of the Blaze will now be able to appreciate the better braking performance that the front disc brake offers. The disc brake version of the Blaze continues to feature the same 165.12cc, 4-stroke, 4-valve engine and the CVT gearbox. With a top speed of over 100 km per hour, the Blaze has a clear edge over the other scooters in the performance department.

With its front telescopic shocks, twin rear shocks for extra stability and 12-inch tyres (first time in India), the Blaze's ride quality is also a step up over the competition.

Now offered with a 220mm disc brake in the front, the Blaze-disc-brake edition is priced at Rs 54,000 (ex-showroom).
