Wockhardt has acquired the Paris-based Negma Laboratories in an all-cash deal worth $265 million (approximately Rs 1085 crore). Patel Engineering has announced an investment of Rs 5000 crore in setting up a 1,200 MW thermal power plant near Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Bharati Shipyard has signed a contract worth $64.8 million (approximately Rs 265 crore) with Great Offshore for the construction of a multipurpose offshore support vessel. Ashok Leyland has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire the US-based Defiance Testing and Engineering Services for $17 million (approximately Rs 70 crore). Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Suzlon Energy, has signed a contract for 400 MW of wind turbine capacity with PPM Energy of Portland, US. Pratibha Industries has secured orders worth Rs 100 crore from Asian Healthcare Services and GMS Construction for the construction of a hospital and a commercial building respectively. Videsh Sanchar Nigam has announced its intention to provide international wireless broadband with StarHub. Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren has secured an order worth Rs 700 crore for the supply of line pipes from the US. Royal Orchid Hotels has announced its plan to set up a chain of 50 budget hotels across India under the brand "Pepper Mint" by 2010. Sakthi Auto Components, a subsidiary of Sakthi Sugars, has acquired Intermet Europe, an auto-components manufacturer, in a deal worth $130-million (approximately Rs 533 crore). Phillips Carbon Black has announced its plan to spend Rs 350 crore to expand capacity and add two power generation units during the financial year 2009. Network 18 Fincap has announced its intention to invest $10 million (approximately Rs 41 crore) in a new entertainment company, The Indian Film Company, which will be listed on the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market. Monocon International Refractories, a subsidiary of IFGL Refractories, has announced its plan to acquire the UK-based Trent Refractories for an undisclosed amount. Infotech Enterprises and Hindustan Aeronautics have formed a joint venture to offer engineering design services for the aerospace sector, with focus on aero-engines, technical publications and work for original equipment manufacturers. Strides Arcolab has announced the termination of its joint venture with the US-based ACCU-BREAK Pharmaceuticals. Aurobindo Pharma has received marketing authorisation approval for Citalopram tablets (20 mg) from the Medicines Control Council of South Africa.
