Cars Marketing - New Products & Services

With the promise of rear legroom that could challenge a few luxury saloons, the long wheelbase version of the Tata Indigo was launched to attract potential buyers in the premium sedan segment. But, despite its dimensions placing it in the league of more expensive cars and feature-rich package at premium sedan prices, the Indigo XL has not exactly been a runaway success. Now, in an attempt at offering more choice to buyers and attracting buyers from the entry-level sedan segment too, Tata Motors has `extended' the long wheel base Indigo XL's range with the launch of the Indigo XL Classic. Earlier this year, Tata Motors had launched the Indigo XL in only the upper-end Grand trim. The new Classic variant shares several top-of-the-line features with the currently available Indigo XL Grand, including the wood trim interiors, the new-look air-conditioner fascia and instrument cluster, composite steering wheel, utility trays behind the seats, and a rear seat centre armrest with cup holders. Also available are the rear AC console with separate controls, a chiller tray in the glove box, and one-touch power windows in the front and rear. The seats are now upholstered in premium fabric, and the front seats offer six-way manual adjustments, including for the lumbar. Exterior features such as dual beam clear lens headlamps, sleek tail lamps, front fog lamps, chrome embellishments on the satin-painted front grille, electrically operated outer rear-view mirrors with blinkers continue to be part of standard fitment. The Classic variant comes with steel wheels with full hubcaps, instead of the alloys offered in the Grand variant. The Classic comes with the same petrol and diesel power-plants as in the Indigo XL Grand; the diesel variant comes with the common rail diesel DICOR engine that generates 70 PS @ 4,000 rpm. The Indigo XL Classic petrol is priced at Rs 5.35 lakh and the DICOR diesel variant, at Rs 6.15 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).
