Two/Three Wheelers Marketing - Strategy
S. Muralidhar The action in the performance bikes segment is hotting up. There is more to come from other companies, but what most bike buyers would have least expected is another 150cc roll out from Hero Honda. The company has launched another challenger to take on the Bajaj Pulsar - the current brand leader in this category. Hero Honda already has three bikes in the 150cc+ segment - the Achiever, the CBZ XTREME and the Karizma. The new, fourth bike, which from its looks could easily elbow out the Achiever and the maybe even the CBZ, is the Hunk. BIG-MADE The Hunk, true to its somewhat clich‚d name, is bigmade, featuring an oversized fuel tank and some muscular, chiselled panels. The bike has a few firsts for Hero Honda, but a list of those will have to wait till we do a full test report. The action in the performance bikes segment is hotting up. From the initial information and the spec sheet that Hero Honda has handed out, it seems that the Hunk features an engine that is similar in performance characteristics to the CBX-XTREME. The bike generates a peak power of 14.2 bhp at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The Hero Honda Hunk, with a starting price of Rs 55,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), is being offered with two - a kick-start and a self-start - variants. The self-start variant is priced at Rs 57,000 (exshowroom, Delhi). The new Hunk should improve Hero Honda's firepower in the performance bike segment and could potentially fill a gap that the market leader has.
