The Hindu Business Line : Mom's the word

May 14 is International Mother's Day. Discovery Channel has lined up special programmes for mothers and mothers-to-be, between 12 noon and 8 p.m. The programmes focus on the challenges and joys of parenting and family development... from the birth of the child until the teen years. Covering the milestones in a baby's development through the eyes of the mother, the programmes will offer useful commentaries for viewers. "The programmes will have experts airing their views on what to expect and what not to expect as a mother," says Rajiv Bakshi, Associate Director - Marketing and Communications, Discovery Networks India.

The line-up includes three series — Baby's World, The Baby Human and Untamed Earth.

In five half-hour segments, Baby's World covers everything from the first moments to the first steps; how babies learn to hold everyday objects; from the first gurgle, to the ingenious storytelling of a four-year-old; how children reason and begin to solve problems; and how young children develop one of the trickiest human skills of all... getting along with others.

The three one-hour episodes of The Baby Human explain how children discover the ability to walk, how babies begin to understand other people's minds and capture the child's leap into the world of words, marking the shift from infancy to childhood...

The two-part Untamed Earth takes viewers on a journey round the world to witness the "magical and mysterious" bond between mother and child.

Also featured on the day will be a preview of The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy, a one-hour programme that charts growth from the moment of creation to the birth of a... an inside look into a new life as it begins.
