Planet Earth

How many people would it take to discover every nook and cranny of the Earth's landscape? Well, the six billion people crowding her may not be nearly enough. Discovery Channel's `Planet Earth' series attempts to do just some of that, using high-definition photography and other filming techniques to capture awe-inspiring landscapes and its inhabitants, including "rarely spotted, often mythical, creatures".

Produced at a cost of nearly Rs 100 crore, the series has been narrated by legendary natural historian Sir David Attenborough.

As many as 40 cameramen have filmed the series across 200 locations over the last five years.

The 11-part series will begin airing every Thursday, 8 p.m., from February 1. There would be repeat telecasts on the following Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.).

The series starts off with `From Pole to Pole' and moves to `Mountains', `Fresh Water', `Caves', `Desert', `Ice Worlds', `Plains', `Seasonal Forests', `Jungles', `Shallow Seas' and `Ocean'.
