Radio/TV For car enthusiasts
For car enthusiasts, Discovery Travel & Living’s showcasing of the American fashion designer Ralph Lauren’s personal car collection should be an episode to look out for. Titled ‘Speed, Style & Beauty’, this will display the car collection that has taken over 25 years to build and includes the 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Mile Miglia, the first of just four specially built for the thousand-mile Mille Miglia race. The 1929 Blower Bentley (first of five built), the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe, two Ferraris (1958 250 Testa Rossa and 1961 250 TR 61), the last being one of only two ever built. Yet another car in Lauren’s possession is the 1930 Mercedes-Benz- SSK, which, according to a Discovery press note, “represented a metaphor for the Roaring Twenties and was the most widely copied car of its generation.” A 1955 Jaguar and the McLaren F1 are other cars he possesses. On his passion for cars, Lauren has said, “Cars have always been a source of design inspiration for me. The cars I collect have a message of timeless beauty.” The show will also “acquaint viewers with the greatest assemblies of cars ever, spanning 70 years of automotive history, and will give a peek into 29 cars combining automotive perfection and unmatched beauty.” The episode will be telecast on December 11 at 7 p.m. More Stories on : Radio/TV
