Attractions: Gangtok is the centre of Tibetan Buddhist culture and learning, with numerous monasteries and religious educational institutions. The city overlooks the Ranikhola River in the valley below. The peaks of the snow-clad Himalayan range, including the Kanchenjunga, can be seen from “Hanuman Tok,” near Gangtok. A Yak ride around the Tshangu lake is recommended.

Kalimpong is a small hill station between Siliguri and Gangtok and the drive is scenic. The town is 1,250 metres above sea level and offers excellent views of Kanchenjunga and the other Himalayan peaks. The real fun in coming to Darjeeling is on the toy train which takes six-seven hours to cover a distance of 82 km. This train passes through forests, waterfalls, over deep valleys and through the mountains and tunnels. Trekking enthusiasts can check out Sandakphu and Phalut. From Sandakphu one can see four of the five highest mountain peaks in the world — Everest, Makalu, Lhotse and Kanchenjunga.
