The New Manager
-
People Leader Speak
Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and MD, Bharti Enterprises
Corporations today work in a complex matrix and a manager in today's times has to do the same. It is believed that one cannot conduct a business with yesterday's methods and still be successful tomorrow. Therefore, the key challenge for mangers of the future is the creation of an organisational culture that welcomes change and views it as a necessity; encourages initiative, reflection and pro-activity at every level; and supports learning. A manager today has to develop good leadership qualities in order to take the organisation to the top. It is a complex job for the manager, as he has to manage departments of different needs such as finance, human resources, marketing and sales, and also ensure that their goals are aligned to reach a common objective. Therefore, an effective manager gets the job done through high quantitative and qualitative standards of performance with satisfaction and high degree of commitment.
