"We will be signing with an institute in Shanghai, China, adding to existing Asian tie-ups in the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore," he said after the convocation function held for the 2006 batch of the institute's students. The second tie-up would be with an institute in Europe. In the following year, the institute will appoint two more chairpersons, which includes Mr K. B. Chandra Sekar, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jam Cracker Inc. USA, in a bid to establish the institute's core competency in marketing and sales. "Every institute has its core competency, and this will be ours," said Dr Balachandran. The institute has been awaiting allotment of land on Old Mahabalipuram Road on the outskirts of Chennai city. He said that he expects the land to be allotted in June, and the institute will be operational there a year after the land allotment date. The average salary offered to the 2006 batch of GLIM is Rs 7.2 lakh per annum, in sectors such as automobiles, FMCG, peripherals and software companies.
