Management Columns - Leader Speak Need for multi-pronged approach
Mr Shailendra Chouksey, Director, JK Lakshmi Cement
Today a business manager needs necessarily to be multi-pronged in his approach and thus has to look at the whole basket of things towards fulfilment of his duties. In other words, he has to see how he can improve returns and benefits to all stakeholders which includes not just shareholders but also employees, business partners, vendors and transporters. He must devise special schemes for the benefit of these communities. He also has to work towards the betterment of society and take special care of the society which is directly impacted by his business. Today's young manager should have a very clear perspective of these factors. On one hand, he should have an eye on business results and on the other hand he must also go beyond his statutory responsibilities. He must look beyond his duties and see how he can help the client in every possible way. Today's manager must have a concern for the environment. He must devise business policies which result in protecting the environment to the maximum extent. Adoption of technology is equally important by a business manager of today. He must be up-to-date with the latest technology and also be able to use it for the advantage of the business as well as society. He must be able to do several things at the same time as the present day work environment is extremely complex. An ability to think on his feet and produce results in a given situation is also required of him in these times. All these qualities will make a manager in the today's times productive and efficient.
