Special hybrid programme for IOC employees

Our Bureau

Online graduate school U21Global and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd have signed an agreement to offer a 15-week online Hybrid Certificate programme in Project Management to employees of IOC. By 2008, this collaboration is expected to deliver the curriculum to more than 1,000 Indian Oil employees, ranging from junior to senior management from different divisions including pipelines and refineries.

The employees, divided into batches of 50 executives per class, would be exposed to global education in large scale project management that would enhance their `strategic leadership excellence.'

The programme is aimed at facilitating participants in understanding internationally accepted best practices in project management from concept to commissioning, including project closure and closure audit.

Speaking at the tie-up, Mr Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, said, "Today in IndianOil, major projects worth over Rs 45,000 crore are in various stages of implementation from drawing board to execution and are slated to be completed by 2011-12.

These projects have to be completed on schedule to create a competitive edge for the corporation. Moreover, due to globalisation of the economy and ensuing fierce competition, it is required that all our projects adopt processes which are internationally benchmarked."

The programme could make IndianOil's pro-active project managers foresee things and events and plan and act accordingly, he added.

Dr Mukesh Aghi, Chief Executive Officer, U21Global, said that the in the emerging business scenario, there was a need to train managers in international business practices.

"Organisations need to have a pool of knowledge workers and in programmes like U21Global's, executives learn to make well-informed business decisions through creative, problem-solving approaches and develop competencies required for the global knowledge economy."

U21Global an online Graduate School is a joint venture between Universitas 21, an international network of 19 leading research-intensive universities in 11 countries, and Thomson Learning, provider of tailored learning solutions.
