Standard Chartered Bank emerged as the top team among 35 corporate teams in the Microsoft Corporate Challenge held at Kochi last week.

The non-linear race is a five-stage test of endurance including activities such as running, cycling, trekking, rowing across backwaters and of course mental activities such as cracking codes.

"The Microsoft Corporate Challenge tested us from all possible angles. Mentally, physically and emotionally. The key to winning was to plan, strategise and execute as a team. The lessons learnt here are very much applicable in corporate life," said Tarun Dhingra, Associate and team captain, Standard Chartered Bank.

Although many of the participant members were meeting each other for the first time, they came together as a team even in difficult situations that pushed each member to the extreme. "The Standard Chartered team revealed that physical strength was not the deciding factor, but teamwork," said Prem Bhatia, Managing Director, Sports Media Ltd.

Infosys made it to the top teams on its debut. Members of Team Infosys felt that the Microsoft Corporate Challenge was a great way to "discover themselves" and optimise their team spirit to the greatest extent possible.

"The games pushed us to our limits both physically and mentally and very clearly it was the team spirit and not any one single persons' ability that won out. It is an awesome way to learn team building and we would recommend it to everyone from any industry worldwide," they said.

Some of the other participants were ICICI, Barclays Bank, the Indian Navy, Pepsi Foods, RMZ, GE Money, Thomson International, Unilever, Ashok Leyland and Motorola.

Bennett Coleman and Co and JM Morgan Stanley emerged as the other two winners.

Mr Venkat Vardhan, Managing Director, DNA Networks, said that the response to the event was overwhelming and that that they could look at a location abroad for the Microsoft Corporate Challenge 2007.
