Education CSI chapter at IIM Indore Our Bureau
The Computer Society of India (CSI) kicked off its IIM Indore Student Chapter last week and also launched a CSI - IIM-I website at the business school's campus. The inauguration was done by Lalit Sawhney, President of the Computer Society of India. Special guests included Upendra Giri (CEO, Astrowix Corporation USA), Dr. S. P. Parashar (Director, IIM Indore) and Dr. M. Chandwani (Professor, DAVV). Prof. M. Scalem (Founding Chairman & Faculty Guide of Infinit-I, student IT Club IIMI) conducted the session, says a press release from the institution. This CSI launch in IIM Indore was the cumulative result of months of effort by IIM-I and the CSI. In his speech, Dr. S. P Parashar said that academia and industry need to work in unison to create the new face of India. To open the branch here, certain norms also had to be revised. Lalit Sawhney, an IIM-A graduate, said that the various areas of management and IT were mutually dependent on each other. Over the years, IT and ITES have grown, with expertise being largely developed in India. This has necessitated its dependence on management. In this respect challenges in HR in the BPO and ITES area are numerous. Industries today, especially retail and telecom, cannot function effectively without IT, he said. Upendra Giri, in his speech, emphasised the growing opportunities in industries in the country and the need of the hour was creativity in use of resources available. Mere utilisation of IT cannot and will not change everything, he stressed. What is important is to implement process reengineering to ensure the effectiveness of any creative effort.
