Clarity of vision is the key

Sanjiv Bhavnani, CEO & Managing Director, Visesh Infotecnics Ltd

Today's world is characterised by competition, information, globalisation and disruptive technologies on one side and changing aspirations, value systems, consumerism and dissatisfaction on the other. In order to be successful, a business manager today needs to strike a balance between the organisational objectives and customer expectations, by deploying a judicious mix of employee motivation, product innovation, service differentiation and financial leverage in order to build organisational competencies that optimise stakeholder value.

He needs to have strong leadership qualities and clarity of vision, which can be assimilated by his team to achieve business objectives in a planned and efficient manner.

He needs to be passionate about his work, a self-driven motivator who can get the best out of his team by leading from the front and by setting a personal example. Strong interpersonal communication skills and religious and cultural tolerance, coupled with an empathy for his team and his customers, are an ideal mix of qualities that today's business manager needs to possess. An ability to identify talent, coupled with an ability to groom and nurture individual competence and weave it into a performance driven team that remains loyal to the organisation, would be a definite asset in a world where the quality and commitment of employees determines the success of most businesses.

Today's successful business managers need to have an ability to spot new opportunities and generate innovative approaches to rapidly changing customer demands in a competitive global marketplace, in building flexible and networked organisational models that are robust yet cost-efficient and highly scalable. They need to display remarkable agility and nimble-footedness in adapting to changing market needs and be conversant with information and technology in order to exploit opportunities on a global platform.

In short today's successful business managers need to be enlightened leaders who can turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones, on which excellent organisations can be built. — Sanjiv Bhavnani, CEO & Managing Director, Visesh Infotecnics Ltd
