XLRI launches sat-based retail, marketing courses

Sankar Radhakrishnan

XLRI Jamshedpur is launching two new specialised management courses that use HughesNet Global Education (HNGE)’s satellite-based interactive distance learning platform.

The two new programmes — a post-graduate certificate in retail management and a post-graduate certificate in sales and marketing management — are targeted at freshers. Both programmes will run for a duration of 12 months and will include f ive-seven days of intensive on-campus learning at XLRI. Students can attend classes for the courses at any of HNGE’s 300 learning centres or classrooms in 90 cities across the country.

According to Father Casimir Raj, Director, XLRI, the new programmes are intended to help fresh graduates build careers in India’s booming retail and sales sector. The institute plans to launch more distance learning courses, he says.

XLRI’s satellite-based education programmes are intended to help working professionals across the country enhance their knowledge without disrupting their regular work schedules.

The technology platform developed by HNGE, a division of Hughes Communication India Ltd, allows students to interact with members of the faculty and also with each other, he says.

The institute’s satellite-based courses have seen a growing number of aspirants signing up every year. The institute also receives queries about these courses from across the world, he adds.

XLRI first teamed up with HNGE five years ago, to offer management education programmes to students across the country.

So far, it has offered a post-graduate certificate in business management and a post-graduate certificate in human resource management using HNGE’s technology platform, says Partho Banerjee, President and CEO, Hughes Communication India Ltd. Both these programmes have been designed for people with some work experience, says Father Casimir Raj.

Admissions to the new courses, the fee for both of which is Rs 1.65 lakh, is open to candidates who have scored a minimum of 50 per cent marks in their graduate degree. The admissions procedure includes a personal interview of candidates by XLRI faculty using HNGE’s interactive platform. The last date for submitting the application forms for these programmes is August 16.
