‘To become a leader you need to think like one’

Sudhir Rangnekar, Managing Director & Group CEO, Sical Logistics

You become a leader only when you start thinking like one’.

Energy, vision, empathy and the will to succeed are what describe a true leader.

A leader effortlessly enthuses people with a vision and inspires them to accomplish seemingly impossible goals.

Today, it takes a true leader to put forth the interest of his employees’ personal and professional growth along with the interest of the organisation.

However, this is not a front that a leader puts up to get his job done. He genuinely cares for his team and in the process, earns their respect and trust.

The graph has to dip to rise!

Failure – necessary to success, is something that comes with being a leader.

He allows his team ample creative freedom to plan and execute their campaigns and steps in only when his presence becomes indispensable.

He encourages free and open discussion of ideas and consistently recognises and rewards brilliance.

In this way, he nurtures a culture of innovation, learning and creativity.

In the famous poem, “Where the mind is without fear” Rabindranath Tagore beautifully captures the feelings of fear, doubt and falsehood which enslave the minds of men.

I believe that a leader must transcend the role of manager/supervisor and become a mentor to his people — a friend, philosopher and guide.

Such a leader will be able to help his employees overcome self-doubt and achieve self-actualisation.
