The New Manager - Education
ICFAI to increase Ph.D intake

‘Our research focus areas would cover issues in management education, applied manufacturing, HR and finance, among others.’

G. Naga Sridhar

The ICFAI Business School will be increasing its focus on industry research besides adding to the strength of its Ph.D Programme.

The Hyderabad-based business school, which has 90 research scholars enrolled in its Ph.D programme, would increase the number of admissions from the current 50 from the next academic year. “We have not yet quantified the increase but the number will go up,” Dr Pandu Ranga Rao, Chief Advisor, ICFAI Business School told The New Manager.

ICFAI is the only private business school in the country which offers a scholarship of Rs 25,000 in the first year of the Ph.D programme and Rs 27,000 from the second year onwards,” Dr Rao claimed. In addition, the three-year programme would offer $1500 per month under its visiting scholar programme in association with business schools in the US and the UK, he said.

“Our research focus areas are being expanded to cover various pressing issues in management education, applied manufacturing, human resources, marketing and finance, among others,” he said. The research scholars would also be exposed to case-writing and case-developing, he added.

However, the business school would offer the fellowships under an understanding with the students. “Those who accept fellowships need to give an undertaking that they would work for ICFAI as faculty members after completion of their Ph.D for a mutually agreed period,” he said.

“This is our solution to the scarcity of quality faculty being faced by business schools in the country. Our research scholars will also be offered jobs in other divisions, apart from teaching positions,” Dr Rao said.
