Education SDM Institute ties up with Shanghai University ‘This marks the beginning of the international focus of SDM-IMD; we hope to have more such arrangements in future.’
The SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore, has signed an agreement with the Global Management Education Institute of Shanghai University for a student exchange programme for post-graduate management students. According to Ramesh Venkateswaran, Director, SDM-IMD, the exchange programme envisages the following: Students from the SDM Institute spending their first semester in the partner University and undergoing courses there. Short-term study tours of students between the universities to understand the other country. For example, a group of students would go from SDM-IMD to Shanghai and spend a week to 10 days there. The programme would include sessions by faculty and visits to organisations. In addition, the other associations being pursued include exchange of faculty between institutions, joint research and collaboration on academic work and offering joint MBA programmes between institutes. “This is the beginning of an international focus of SDM-IMD, Mysore, and it is expected that in the years to come, more such arrangements would be worked out,” elaborated the Director. This is a part of SDM-IMD’s mission to make the institute truly international in its academic delivery and to give students maximum opportunity to be in touch with international happenings. The SDM Institute in Mysore is a part of the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust, and has been in management education for over a decade. SDM-IMD is an institution that nurtures practical managers for improving effectiveness and adding value to organisations in India and abroad, says Venkateswaran.
The trust itself runs over 40 educational institutions including higher education centres in medical, engineering, dental and management sciences. The trust is also involved in charity work and social upliftment. A statement from the institute says that Shanghai University is a comprehensive public university consisting of 21 colleges and schools offering 61 undergraduate programmes, 86 post-graduate and 20 doctoral programmes. It has a teaching faculty of over 2,300, with more than 397 full professors and 960 associate professors. The Global Management Education Institute is a part of the University and offers management qualifications for students. – Our Bureau More Stories on : Education
