Spanish multinational express dry-cleaning chain Pressto has launched a new format Zapato, which not only will take care of your shoes and bags but can also give them a complete makeover.

The company launched its first Zapato store in Mumbai recently and plans to open five-six more this calendar year, said Pressto’s CEO, Ms Esther Lennaerts.

Besides, the company will add another six Pressto outlets to the already existing 20 this year. The Zapato stores will be opened near Pressto outlets.

Zapato is an exclusive boutique drycleaner for footwear, bags and other leather accessories. It offers services such as softening of leather, removal of stains, grease or colour, removal of fungus or mould and also repair and restorations of heels and soles of the shoes, thus, giving it a new look.

Earlier, dry cleaning of shoes, bags, wallets or belts was rare. However, with an increasing number of international brands occupying wardrobe space, Indian consumers are fast realising the need for a wardrobe manager. Dry cleaning business, which used to be largely run as family business, is getting organised with several domestic and international players such as White Tiger, Wardrobe and Landromat in the fray.

“Just as garments need to be regularly dry cleaned, shoes and bags needs to be regularly cleaned and polished to maintain and prolong their lifespan. Our first Zapato store has received 500 pieces in the first month of opening,” Ms Lennaerts said.

Pressto is already servicing 50,000 customers (with two million garments) in Mumbai and Delhi and plans to expand to other cities in the next two years. The company will invest close to Rs 12 lakh per Zapato outlet of 500 sq ft. in India.
