Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets on Monday following the arrival of poor quality produce.
Traders said only 1,500 bags of turmeric arrived for sale and due to lack of upcountry orders, the local traders purchased limited stock and only 50 per cent was sold.
As the quality hybrid finger turmeric kept for sale was poor, prices decreased by ₹1,055 a quintal and those of hybrid root turmeric by ₹400.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,599-6,164 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,399-5,899.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,469-6,364; the root variety ₹5,289-5,811. Of the 356 bags that arrived, 65 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,299-6,269 and the root variety ₹5,179-5,965. Of the 685 bags on sale, 421 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,119-6,211; the root variety ₹4,999-5,899. All the 521 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,339-6,189 and the root variety ₹5,311-5,817. All the 35 bags were traded.
