Only fifty per cent of the turmeric that arrived for sale on Monday was sold in Erode markets.
“Due to moderate receipt of upcountry demand, traders were keen in buying only the fine and superfine varieties. They were cautious too in buying stocks. Of the 6,500 bags that arrived , only 3,200 were sold. The arrival in Nizamabad was 10,000 bags but prices were at a par with that of Erode market,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Prices of finger turmeric were up ₹300 a quintal in the Regulated Market Committee and ₹500 in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society. The root variety increased by ₹100 in all markets.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,809-8,398 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,806-7,563.
Salem Turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹6,709-9,569; the root variety ₹5,887-8,159. Of the arrival of 1,977 bags, 650 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,399-8,619 and the root variety ₹7,269-8,039. Of the arrival of 1,114 bags, 827 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,141-8,389 and the root variety ₹6,969-7,879. Of the 763 bags on offer, 749 found takers.
