Only forty per cent of the turmeric arrived was sold at Erode markets on Tuesday.

“Due to severe summer, the traders in North India did not place any fresh orders and so the local traders procured 40 per cent of the arrived 5,000 bags of turmeric. Due to non-receipt of upcountry demand the price also decreased,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the finger variety in the Regulated Market Committee and Erode Cooperative Marketing Society was down ₹300 a quintal and the root variety ₹200.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,150-8,059 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,019-7,529.

Salem Turmeric: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,121-9,009 and the root variety ₹5,895-7,655. Of the total arrival of 1,288 bags, 470 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹6,600-7,600 and the root variety ₹6,266-7,599. Of the 865 bags offered, 772 were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,758-7,699 and the root variety ₹6,394-7,569. Of the 1,267 bags on sale, 1,204 were traded.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹6,685-7,469; the root variety ₹6,198-7,299. All the 420 bags found takers.
