The auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association for this year ended on a happy note with larger percentage of absorption at nine-week high average price.
As much as 87 per cent of 13.34 lakh kg offered at Sale No: 50 – the final auction for 2014 – was absorbed at an average price of ₹69.36 a kg against previous week’s ₹66.33.
Among CTC teas, Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped when GLT Enterprises bought it for ₹196 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate and Deepika Supreme got ₹190 each, Shanthi Supreme ₹188, Hittakkal Estate ₹187 and Navilkal ₹185. In all, 98 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Chamraj topped the Orthodox market at ₹260 a kg, followed by Kodanad ₹240, Havukal ₹234, Kairbetta ₹224, Mailoor Estate Premium ₹207, Highfield Estate and Prammas ₹203. In all, 43 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹40-43 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹90-160 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹45-51 for plain dusts and ₹120-190 for brighter liquoring dusts. There was purchase for Pakistan in the range of ₹44-69 a kg.
