Bearish reports from domestic and overseas markets have created downtrend in the pepper market. Vietnam is reportedly offering straight January shipment of 500 GL uncleaned at $8,900 a tonne while January/February first half at $8,750. Full January shipment of cleaned 500 GL was at $9,550. Availability of physical pepper was tight and no sellers were there for MG-1 at prices below ₹710 a kg, traders said. They said Rajkumari pepper was being traded at ₹690, while High Range material was at ₹685 and that of from the plains ₹680. On the terminal market, only nine tonnes of pepper arrived and that were traded at ₹680-690. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹67,000 (ungarbled) and ₹70,000 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices were at $11,600 a tonne c&f for Europe while for the US it is $11,850.
