Reports that Vietnam, Brazil have brought down their pepper prices to below $4,000 a tonne and Sri Lanka to $4,900 a tonne have pushed the spot pepper prices further on Friday in the markets here.
Add to this there was reportedly no trading on the national exchanges also for the past two days.
Besides, Karnataka sellers were reportedly selling pepper at ₹380-385 a kg. All these factors have aided the price fall, trade sources said.
On the terminal market, 15 tonnes were traded at ₹380-410 a kg.
Spot prices decreased by ₹200 a quintal to close at ₹40,100 (ungarbled) and ₹42100 (garbled) a quintal. Indian parity in the international markets was at $6,750 a tonne c&f for Europe and $7,000 for the US.
Brazil and Vietnam were reportedly offering at $3,800.
