The sluggish trend continued in chana on weak physical demand and poor buying by millers. Chana (kanta) declining to ₹2,800-50 a quintal (₹2,900-25) in Indore mandis. Chana (desi) ruled at ₹2,600-2,700, Kabuli Bitki at ₹2,900-3,100, while chana (mausmi) at ₹3,100-3,300.
Notwithstanding the expected decline in output, chana has been witnessing a downtrend due to arrival of poor quality. Even Nafed, according to trade sources, has so far purchased only 180 tonnes at the minimum support price against a target of 20 lakh tonnes. In these circumstances, the bearish trend in chana is likely to continue, said Sanjay Agrawal, a local chana trader.
Decline in spot chana amd weak demand in pulses also dragged its dal with chana dal (average) today at ₹3,300-25, chana dal (medium) at ₹3,400-3,425, while chana dal (bold) declined to ₹3,600-25.
Improved domestic demand lifted dollar chana with its price in local mandis at ₹4,500-5,200 amid arrival of 4,000 bags. In container, however, dollar chana continued to witness sluggish trend on weak export demand with 42/44 count at ₹5,900-25, 44/46 count ₹5,700-25, 58/60 count at ₹4,725-50 , while dollar chana (60/62 count) declined to ₹4,600-25 a quintal.
