Coconut oil prices touched a record ₹2,500 for 15 kg on Thursday due to declining stocks and festival demand. “For the first time, coconut oil prices are ruling at ₹2,500. There are some buyers at such prices, as they require coconut for the ensuing Onam festival. Till September first week, prices could tend to be firm,” said RM Palanisamy, a trader. He said such higher price is due to paucity of copra stocks with farmers. Similarly, in other areas, too, crushers have purchased copra fat ₹11,800 a quintal. Meanwhile, copra was sold at ₹11,700-12,000 a quintal in Perundurai and Anthiyur areas. At the Perundurai Cooperative Marketing Society, more than 150 tonnes of copra was sold on Wednesday.
